Book Fairs – Mount Maunganui Lioness 1st February 2010

My favourite find was Belgian Humor Under the German Heel.

Published by The Belgian Information Centre, New York, no date (circa 1942-3*), no author stated.

* Title page illustration taken from the November 1942 issue of the Churchill Gazette, Belgian underground newspaper.

My favourite anecdote arises from talk surrounding the impending German invasion of Britain,

“Bookshops displayed such treaties as Swimming in 10 Lessons and Learn to Swim.”

My favourite cartoon (see below) Paper Shortage. Both show that Belgium under occupation had not lost its collective sense of humour.
