You Should Open the Door – Craft Spells

As much as I survive on fuzzed-out guitar pop I need the chilled-out stuff too – full of smart sounds and introspective lyrics – the sort clever kids claim as their own while giving two fingers to the louts that fucked them ’round at school, who’s cool now huh?

The last couple of years have been fine shoegaze times; Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Avi Buffalo, The Drums, Wild Nothing, Passion Pit and The Morning Benders being favourites. Craft Spells are racing to join in, last week they added You Should Close the Door to their Soundcloud.

You can also download Party Talk from their record label Captured Tracks who have a great roster of similarly like bands; Beach Fossils, Wild Nothing, The Jameses, and the sweet laconic psych of Widowspeak.

As much as these bands throw guitars around they also give cred to the synth come-back; dodgy and far from a beautiful thing in the wrong hands…

No synth in sight but…
Captured Tracks have released White Noise by the ever-so-cool Monochrome Set; early recordings (1975-77). If you were into the Monochrome Set you’ll know how cool they were in the early 80s – Jet Set; Junta to remind you – followed by Flesh, Trash, Heat from White Noise, oh how cool they were in the late 70s…
